Lithonia Lighting Launches the I-BEAM LED High Bay

May 9, 2012

ImageAcuity Brands, Inc. introduces I-BEAM® LED high bay from Lithonia Lighting®. This LED solution is the latest addition to the I-BEAM family, the most widely specified high bay family in the industry. The I-BEAM LED luminaire offers higher quality illumination, longer life and consumes less energy than comparable fluorescent and HID fixtures. Plus, I-BEAM LED high bays provide a payback in as little as two years and an impressive return on investment over the life of the product.

Affordable for many high bay applications such as manufacturing, warehousing and other large indoor spaces, I-BEAM LED luminaires can be integrated with factory-installed digital controls such as occupancy sensors, daylight photocells or nLight® devices, resulting in increased energy savings. I-BEAM LED high bays come fully capable of dimming down to 10 percent. Additionally, conduction and natural convection technologies used in the I-BEAM LED luminaires maximize cooling, fixture performance and lumens per watt.

“The I-BEAM LED high bay was designed to provide a quick payback and reduce a customer’s total cost of ownership while also delivering the quality and configurability that has made our I-BEAM family so popular,” said Ed Weaver, Acuity Brands Lighting Vice President and General Manager Industrial and Emergency, Lithonia Lighting. “This flexible fixture offers numerous options for almost every electrical and optical component, including reflectors, wire guards, emergency battery pack, occupancy sensors, surface mount brackets and more.”

Available for mounting heights ranging from 15-40 feet and ambient environments up to 131°F (55°C), the I-BEAM LED high bay meets both horizontal and vertical light level requirements through narrow or wide distributions. Reflectors are precision formed and utilize premium materials including ALANOD® MIRO® specular aluminum, while an optional semi-diffuse lens provides glare control and LED protection.

“I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the I-BEAM LED luminaire is so lightweight that I can lift it with one hand,” said Richard Wyton, Corporate Lighting Consultant with Steiner Electric Company. “This fixture also delivers a very good return on investment. It’s so affordable that it can be used as an alternative not only to HID, but to fluorescent as well.”

The I-BEAM LED high bay will be on display at the LIGHTFAIR® International trade show in Las Vegas May 9 -11, 2012, at the Acuity Brands booth #4108.

Historic City Hall Get Holophane LED Relighting Facelift

August 10, 2011

Fans of the landmark City Hall in the City of Fountain, Colorado, have a more modern – and energy-efficient – lighting treatment to gaze upon, thanks to a relighting project using Holophane® Utility Full Cutoff LED luminaires. And, while the fixtures themselves are high-tech, their vintage styles maintain a nostalgic look for the City Hall’s tree and lawn-lined sidewalks and streets.

The goals for the LED-relighting project were improved nighttime appearance of City Hall, as well as reduced energy consumption, maintenance, and night-lighting pollution. The latter was achieved in compliance with guidelines from the International Dark-Sky Association through the fixtures’ full-cutoff features.

According to City Manager Scott Trainor, the new lighting provides a 30% savings over the 100-watt high pressure sodium lighting system that was replaced.

University Picks Lithonia Lighting for Renovation with LED

July 27, 2011

A major lighting renovation project at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has incorporated LED lighting from Lithonia Lighting, namely the RTLED™ luminaire. VCU’s decision to use the Lithonia Lighting product was driven, in part, by the school’s earlier success with office and general lighting relighting using an RT5™ fixture.

The RTLED is a high-quality, volumetric recessed luminaire that delivers ambient white light uniformly throughout an entire space while reducing energy and maintenance costs and a building’s environmental footprint. It comes factory-enabled with an interface to the company’s Sensor Switch® portfolio of sensors and control systems.

LED Downlight is for Old or New Construction

April 22, 2011

Installing LED downlighting doesn’t always mean you have to start from scratch. The Lithonia Lighting® REALITY LED module is made for retrofit/remodel or new-construction applications where energy savings, long life, and functional delivered light levels are required.

The REALITY LED module provides 80% energy savings over the 65W BR30 and replicates the beam pattern and useful light levels of these fixtures. It will maintain at least 70% light output for 50,000 hours in a typical lC environment. The REALITY LED module fits most common 6” cans for retrofit applications and can be ordered with L7X, L7XR, or LC6 for new construction. The REALITY LED module is the most economical means to create a well lit environment with exceptional energy efficiency and near zero maintenance.

ROAM® Selected by Austin for Money-Saving Upgrade

February 15, 2011

The ROAM® remote monitoring system has been selected by the city of Austin for a comprehensive street lighting upgrade project. By the project’s anticipated completion in 2014, the city of Austin will be able to control each of its approximately 70,000 streetlights with the click of a mouse. The estimated annual savings: more than $1 million in combined energy and maintenance costs.

ROAM combines photo-control technology with wireless monitoring and control capabilities. In Austin, the ROAM system will be installed and managed by Austin Energy, which will monitor and control the streetlights using data received every hour from the wireless ROAM devices via a web-based communication system.

The ROAM solution is being used successfully by several cities throughout the country to help municipalities increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs. These cities include College Station, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Glendale, AZ; and Anderson, IN.

Projects to relight and renovate sections of downtown Detroit included the use of Holophane’s GranVille® LED luminaires for park and street lighting. The $3.7 million projects were improvements and renovations to the city’s Paradise Valley park and Capitol Park. Both were completed prior to the end of 2010 and involved upgrading from conventional high intensity discharge (HID) lighting to Acuity Brands’ Holophane LED luminaires. The upgrades are expected to elevate the parks’ presence and provide the city with long-term energy savings.
