Lithonia Lighting Expands LED Downlighting Options for the Home

May 2, 2012

L Series LED downlighting modules provide homeowners with practical functionality and higher efficiency.

Acuity Brands, Inc. introduces the L Series LED downlighting modules by Lithonia Lighting®. The L Series modules consist of a light engine and decorative trim that provide an economical solution for bringing energy-efficient LED lighting into homes while providing the warm look of traditional lighting.

The L Series modules are virtually maintenance free and 80 percent more energy efficient than incandescent lamps. The expected lamp life of these modules is more than 17 times longer than incandescent lamps and payback can be realized in as quickly as one year.  Available in 4″, 5″ and 6” apertures, the L Series modules are applicable for new construction, renovation or retrofit projects.  The modules are specifically designed to fit most popular IC and non-IC housings, feature focused optics that precisely direct light from the LED to the task pane and are TRIAC dimmable down to 15 percent.

“It is important we deliver to the consumer market the same quality of lighting our commercial customers have come to expect from Lithonia Lighting LED luminaires,” said Michael Bruce, Value Stream Manager, Residential Downlighting for Lithonia Lighting. “We applied our solid state lighting technology expertise and developed a high quality luminaire that allows homeowners to take advantage of all that LEDs have to offer, thus delivering a better lighting experience.”

The L Series modules are available nationally through Lithonia Lighting sales representatives and authorized distributors.

Winona Lighting Launches Expanded OLED Portfolio at Light+Building 2012

April 2, 2012

Acuity Brands, Inc. is pleased to announce the expansion of the Revel™ and Kindred™ luminaire families from Winona® Lighting. The expanded lines include new size and mounting options, and will be showcased at Light+Building 2012, April 15 – 20 in LG Chem’s booth (hall 4.2, booth G25).

Consistent with the Light+Building 2012 theme of “energy efficiency,” Revel and Kindred luminaires utilize efficient and high performing OLED panels provided by LG Chem, with efficacies of 60 lumens per watt. Both luminaire families provide performance-based lighting solutions designed for indoor ambient and decorative applications.

“The addition of the Revel and Kindred OLED luminaires allows the designer to customize and create unique fixtures that are eco-friendly and energy efficient,” said Peter Ngai, Acuity Brands Lighting Vice President, Research and Development. “The best innovations link technology and design with a profound regard for human interaction. We are pleased to see our visions executed through Winona Lighting, and demonstrate the Company’s commitment to provide the broadest and most diverse traditional and solid-state lighting product portfolio in the industry.”

The contemporary Kindred luminaire is designed to provide a room with individualized canopies of light. Its evocative, iconic shape, especially when mounted in close proximity, promotes a feeling of visual comfort, while its thin profile and gentle curvature create a sense of spacial intimacy. The complete Kindred luminaire series is available in three sizes and multiple mounting options.  It delivers decorative, custom or general lighting solutions and can be used in many types of applications, including office, hospitality, retail, residential and specialty public areas.

The Revel luminaire, inspired by the organic shapes of flowers, is a lighting system that gives designers the freedom to create lighting patterns tailored to their unique application. Its simple, yet elegant and thin, form factor allows designers to augment architectural elements of ceilings and walls while providing high-quality ambient lighting. Now available in several mounting styles, Revel can be applied in a multitude of ways to provide accent or functional lighting that breaks away from rectangular grid layouts.

Revel recently received the Most Innovative Product of the Year award at the 2011 Lightfair® International Trade Show and Conference, and both Revel and Kindred luminaires were accepted in the 2011 IES Progress Report for uniqueness, innovation and significance to the lighting industry.

All Winona Lighting products, including the Revel and Kindred, are available through the Company’s global sales representatives and authorized distributors.

Japanese Paper-Folding Inspires New Peerless Luminaire

October 12, 2011

Peerless Lighting shows its answer to energy efficiency combined with visual distinction with its introduction of the Origami.

Suited for a variety of commercial and select residential applications, the Origami is influenced by the ancient art of Japanese paper-folding. It also takes visual cues from molecular structures and crystalline forms, with repetitive, angular facets and articulated surfaces that allow it to reflect light across the length of the fixtures. The effect: a kinetic interplay of shadow, light and color that varies as one views the luminaires from different angles.

The Origami is available in two unique facet patterns and in both 4’ and 8’ suspended and wall-mount options. Origami comes standard in four colors, painted aluminum and gloss red, black and white, and can also be ordered in custom colors.

6 Reasons to Consider Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights

March 11, 2011

For the past two weeks we’ve told you quite a bit about Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights. Here’s a summary of the Sunoptics benefits:

  1. Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights have the highest performance and light transmittance of any standard domed skylight in the marketplace.
  2. All Sunoptics double- and triple-glazed skylights come standard with an insulated, condensation-resistant, thermally broken frame with integrated exterior weeping wells.
  3. Sunoptics has the exclusive Signature Series Dome.
  4. Sunoptics extrudes and thermally forms all of our own plastic and prismatic sheets.
  5. Sunoptics offers the exclusive Daylighting Photometric Lab.
  6. Sunoptics is a company committed to a purpose.

Paired with lighting control systems, such as those from Lighting Control & Design, you reduce your building’s energy consumption and maximize your savings as well as the comfort of building occupants.

Case Study: Coca-Cola Saves 80% on Energy Use

March 10, 2011

When Coca-Cola decided to build its new energy-efficient distribution plant in Northern California, the company chose Sunoptics Prismatic Skylights to help it achieve its daylighting initiative. By integrating high bay T5 lighting systems with photocells and a lighting control system – in addition to the Sunoptics Signature Series skylights – Coca-Cola has reduced light energy consumption by up to 80% during the peak energy demand hours of the day.

Warehouses and distribution facilities are a natural choice for daylighting. They are large structures usually full with stock and only a hand full of employees moving inventory with fork lifts to trucks for distribution. By using high-performance prismatic daylighting with motion sensing and photocells with their lighting control systems, building owners can create the optimum level of energy efficiency while creating an environment of high productivity for the workers in the space.
