acculamp Named ‘Best Specialty LED’ at TheLEDShow

The new acculampAR111 LED lamp from Acuity Brands received TheLEDAward for Best Specialty Incandescent Replacement Lamp at the recently concluded TheLEDShow 2011 in Las Vegas. The annual event, which focuses on the progress of LED lighting sources, recognizes participating LED manufacturers that stand out among their peers. This year’s award emphasized both product aesthetics and performance.

The acculamp LED S-Series, introduced in May, includes the energy-efficient PAR 38, PAR 30, PAR 20, PAR 16, MR 16 and AR 111 LED lamps. Available in narrow to wide beam angles, the acculamp AR 111 LED lamps  are ideal for displays and accent lighting given their dramatic, energy-efficient lighting.


Premier Healthcare Alliance Picks Acuity Brands

A three-year contract has been awarded to Acuity Brands to supply luminaires and lighting solutions to Premier Purchasing Partners, L.P., the group-purchasing unit of the Premier healthcare alliance. Premier is a collaborative alliance of healthcare facilities with an aim of improving community health through high-quality and cost-effective services.

The broad Acuity Brands portfolio of energy-efficient luminaires, intelligent control systems, and daylighting solutions, which now includes the specialized lighting portfolio of recently acquired Healthcare Lighting, will help Premier meet sustainability objectives for its members in new construction, renovation and relighting applications. That, plus the highest quality illumination for the wide variety of tasks in the facilities owned, leased or managed by its members.


Accreditation Expanded for Acuity Brands on Standards

A company can never have too many pats on the back. And, thanks to its LM-79-standards testing of LED luminaires, Acuity Brands has earned expanded accreditation from the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). The LM-79 is a standard of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

Administered by the National Institute of Science and Technology, the NVLAP’s accreditation programs recognize companies that meet testing requirements of programs such as the Environmental Protection Agency/Department of Energy’s ENERGY STAR program, the DOE’s Lighting Facts and CALiPER programs, and the DesignLights Consortium.


OLED Luminaire Receives Top Industry Honor

The Acuity Brands Revel™ OLED product was named the most innovative product of the year at last week’s LIGHTFAIR®  International Trade Show and Conference. Judged by a panel of lighting industry professionals, the award recognizes innovation in recently launched commercial products.

The Revel OLED (organic light emitting diode) luminaire breaks away from the conventional regimen of grid-based luminaire layouts. This lets designers unleash their creativity with a lighting product that still provides superb energy efficiency.


Indoor and Outdoor LED Products Earn Honors

Three Acuity Brands products were named winners of four Product Innovation Awards (PIAs) from Architectural SSL magazine during LIGHTFAIR International. The magazine is a leading publication focused on LEDs and solid-state lighting throughout the built environment.

The PIAs, which honor the best LED luminaires and components on the market and the companies behind them, were given to:

  • The Lithonia Lighting® RTLED™ luminaire, which received two Platinum Level honors in the General Ambient Lighting category and in the Most Innovative Optical Controls category.
  • The Winona Lighting® Winline™ Submersible 607 Cool Core fixture, which received the Specialty Lighting Gold Level honor.
  • The new Tersen® Ratio™ PG product, which received the Silver Level honor in the Low Bay/Garage category.

Acuity Brands Acquires Healthcare Lighting, Inc.

Acuity Brands has acquired Healthcare Lighting, Inc., of Fairview, PA, a leading provider of specialized, high-performance lighting products for healthcare facilities. Its focus is on providing an optimal lighting experience for all those involved in healthcare: nurses, patients, doctors, guests, and healthcare facility support staff.

Some estimate that the size of the North American market for lighting and lighting controls for new healthcare facilities exceeds $1 billion annually; the renovation opportunity for existing healthcare facilities is as much as $20 billion. Applications include patient and examination rooms, surgical suites and medical procedure rooms, and lighting products for specialized medical functions.


LIGHTFAIR Shines Light on New acculamp™ Brand

The new acculamp S-Series, along with prototypes of omni-directional acculamp A-lamps, will be exhibited at the LIGHTFAIR® International Tradeshow in the Acuity Brands booth, #1801 as well as the Megaman US booth, #2726, next week (May 17-19) in Philadelphia, PA.

The acculamp product line is the first offering of LED lamps by Acuity Brands. It consists of a broad range of LED lamps for commercial and institutional applications, including retail, hospitality and education. Available in the United States and Canada through Acuity Brands’ sales representatives, the inaugural acculamp product line, the S-Series, includes LED versions of PAR16, PAR20, PAR30, PAR38, MR16 and AR111 lamps, in multiple color-temperatures (CCTs) and various beam patterns.


Acuity Brands Sponsors Philly Festival LED Display

The first Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) recently showcased a giant (7.5 feet on all sides) LED-lighted digital-display cube at the downtown Kimmel Center, and Acuity Brands had a big part in its unveiling.

Joining Sonepar USA and OSRAM SYLVANIA, Acuity Brands sponsored the permanent stationing of the PIFA Cube in its high-profile location. It was erected on March 1 as a landmark PIFA symbol, as well as a video-capable sign for the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, which inspired the month-long Festival.

A testament to quality lighting and energy-efficiency, the 4,300-pound cube provides an 8×16-ft. video area, with 72 individual panels that use a total of 93,312 surface-mounted LEDs. Watch the cube in action on YouTube.
