Grocery giant SUPERVALU’s ongoing sustainability initiative is designed to enhance its store environment and shoppers’ experience, and that means network-wide installation of the Lithonia Lighting® RTLED™. The company began a trial using the Lithonia Lighting RTLED at the end of 2009 in its Chestnut Hill Star Market in Newton, MA. At the time, the Star Market served as a test ground for installing LED lighting and is the first grocery store in the nation entirely lit with LEDs. Due to the success of the trial, two SUPERVALU stores in Southern California were recently renovated with the RTLED lighting system.
“We renovated our lighting with the RTLED because of the effect and the impact,” said Keith Tarver, manager of Electrical Systems at SUPERVALU. “We believe the quality of the LED ambient lighting is more soothing, creating a better environment and customer experience for our shoppers. And, we are saving energy! We have received nothing but positive feedback from our customers and store employees.”
The RTLED is a high-quality, volumetric recessed luminaire that delivers ambient white light uniformly throughout an entire space while reducing energy and maintenance costs and a building’s environmental footprint. Powered by an advanced LED light engine, the RTLED luminaire delivers an expected 50,000 hour system life and a superior lighting environment: high color rendering (80+ CRI), 3500K color temperature, and full range dimming with 0-10V DC control.
