Representative Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) Tours Acuity Brands Facilities

Congressman promotes daylighting capabilities that support the Department of Defense’s goal to derive 25 percent of its energy from renewable sources.

Acuity Brands welcomed U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) today as he toured the company’s operations in Conyers and discussed opportunities presented by the innovative use of daylighting and integrated digital lighting technologies.

“I’m proud that such an innovative and eco-conscience company resides in my district,” said Congressman Johnson. “Acuity is leading the way in sustainability – not only in the products they make – but in the design of their facilities worldwide. Their commitment is literally lighting the way to a more eco-friendly future.”

“We were very pleased to receive Representative Johnson and to share more about our innovative energy-saving lighting solutions,” said Steve Lydecker, senior vice president and general manager, Acuity Brands Controls & Solutions. “We greatly appreciate the Congressman’s support of our daylighting capabilities through a provision he sponsored in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 to recognize ‘direct solar’ as a solution qualifying toward the Department of Defense goal to derive a quarter of its energy from renewable sources.”

“As one of the leading lighting manufacturers in the world, Acuity Brands is keenly focused on energy reductions – not only in the products we design and produce, but also in the way we operate our facilities,” said Lydecker. “We believe this was an ideal opportunity to further the goal of focusing the world’s attention on the invaluable role lighting can play in increasing energy efficiency and improving the quality of life.”

Representative Johnson also toured the Acuity Brands manufacturing facilities and spoke with employees in the Conyers operation.
