The W Series luminaires feature integrated controls to maximize energy savings in low-traffic or low-occupancy areas such as corridors, stairwells and restrooms.
Acuity Brands announced today the introduction of the Lithonia Lighting® W Series luminaires that feature integral occupancy sensors to manage lighting usage in low-traffic or low-occupancy areas such as corridors, stairwells and restrooms. The luminaires automatically turn on or off as occupants ascend and descend stairs, walk corridors or enter a seldom used space, significantly reducing energy consumption by not lighting the space when it is not in use.
The W Series luminaires are available with energy-efficient LED or fluorescent lamps and can be configured for surface or wall mount applications. The luminaires’ linear-fluted diffuser coordinates with the Lithonia Lighting RT, VT and ST Series volumetric lighting products and can complement the look of both traditional and contemporary spaces.
“The W Series architectural luminaires combine energy-efficient performance with a sleek, minimalist design at an affordable price,” said Dave Ranieri, Acuity Brands Lighting Vice President and General Manager, Indoor Lighting. “To save energy, luminaires turn off when not in use but embedded sensors can easily detect small motions and walking motions that turn the luminaires on. P Series LED Downlighting Modules use seamless point source dimming and instant-on capabilities to generate a look and feel reminiscent of incandescent lamps.
Lithonia Lighting® P Series LED Downlighting Modules from Acuity Brands, Inc. offer increased energy savings, long life and flexibility compared to many competitive LED downlighting modules. The P Series LED Downlighting Modules have a bar-setting efficacy of 70 lumens per watt, which is more than 86 percent more efficient than incandescent luminaires. They are designed for general-purpose lighting in residential and light commercial applications.
P Series LED Downlighting Modules use advanced Center2Edge™ technology to dim seamlessly from full illumination, creating the look and feel of a single-point source. Center2Edge technology triggers the module’s LED board to act like an incandescent point source while dimming. With a wide area of distribution, P Series LED Downlighting Modules can illuminate a room or hallway and are wet listed for use in bathrooms and areas subject to water exposure.

DPR Construction Designs Environmentally Responsible Workspace Using Acuity Brands Lighting and Controls SolutionsOctober 2, 2012
DPR Construction installs highly controllable smart and simple lighting solutions to help meet requirements for LEED Gold certification.
DPR Construction, one of the largest general contracting and construction firms in the U.S, renovated 100 percent of its new occupied office space in Newport Beach, Calf. with LED lighting and digital lighting controls solutions from Acuity Brands, Inc. (NYSE: AYI). DPR Construction’s goals for the renovation were to reduce energy consumption, visually enhance its open and collaborative workspace and meet the criteria to become LEED® Gold certified.
DPR Construction specified multiple lighting and controls products from Acuity Brands®. These products included Lithonia Lighting® VT Series LED luminaires with integrated nLight® technology from Acuity Brands, which use nLight® enabled lighting controls from Sensor Switch®. These fixtures with integrated controls were installed above workstations in its open office spaces. Mark Architectural Lighting™ Slot fixtures were installed in its “innovation” room, to bring architectural appeal to a unique, non-traditional space. Additionally, EVO® A Series LED downlights from Gotham® were installed throughout hallways, bathrooms, labs and showers. Occupancy sensors from Sensor Switch were also installed in all areas to help meet California Title 24 building energy efficiency standards.
As a way to further enhance the energy savings provided by the LED luminaires, DPR Construction specified the nLight Virtual WallPod™ application from Sensor Switch, which allows employees to use their iPhone® or iPad® mobile device or desktop computer to individually control their personal workspace lighting. “Our employees have different needs – one may be looking at drawings, while the other is working on a computer – so we wanted to make workstations functional and flexible for whatever task they may be completing,” said Jason King of DPR Construction. “Through the nLight Virtual WallPod application, every end user has dimming capabilities at his or her desk through an iPhone or the task bar of a computer.”

Acuity Brands is First to Qualify in New DesignLights Consortium Category for LED Lighting Retrofit KitsSeptember 28, 2012
Two Lithonia Lighting® LED lighting retrofit kits from Acuity Brands, Inc. are the first to meet the DesignLights™ Consortium (“DLC”) requirements for Integrated-Style Retrofit Kits for Linear Panels. The 2RTL2R and 2RTL4R LED relight assemblies are part of the Company’s RTLED Relight family of products and are designated for the DLC’s Lamp-style Retrofit Kits for Linear Panels 2×2 and 2×4 Troffers categories respectively.
The DLC Qualified Products List (“QPL”) supports only high-quality, high-performing commercial LED products. Each of the products listed on the QPL have met the DLC’s minimum performance and other requirements.
The RTLED Relight family combines digital LED lighting and controls technology with a patented high-performance optical design to offer the most advanced retrofit solution available for general-ambient lighting applications. DLC qualification has helped accelerate market acceptance of LED luminaires as it provides assurance that the product meets stringent criteria for energy efficiency, performance and longevity. It also allows end users to participate in many local utility rebate programs to help defray the cost of their upgrades as they reduce demand on the electrical grid.
High Art Meets High Performance in New Luminaires with Unique, Modern Style and Energy-Saving Performance
Origami LED luminaires are offered in suspended and wall-mount versions and feature advanced lighting optics that allow for increased fixture spacing, fewer units per installation and, ultimately, significant energy savings. Origami LED was also designed with a less-is-more-sustainable credo. Its thin gauge aluminum bodies use roughly 50% less metal than traditional extruded fixtures. Plus, its housings, end caps and joiners all contain recycled material.
Offered in 4’ and 8’ lengths, Origami LED can be installed as individual units or connected together to form continuous runs. Available in four standard colors – gloss red, back, white and painted aluminum – Origami LED can also be specified with any custom color.

The Lithonia Lighting® VTLED Relight assembly kits from Acuity Brands, Inc. feature long-lasting LEDs with a service life of up 50,000 hours, reducing maintenance requirements and disposal costs compared to conventional lighting. The VTLED kits’ advanced LED light engine and driver consume less energy than older, less energy-efficient lamps.
VTLED Relight kits can be assembled completely below the ceiling plane. Universal end brackets and a one-piece plug-in light engine, coupled with a below-ceiling assembly capability, make the VTLED kits simple and quick to install. Kits are available in both 2’ x 4’ and 2’ x 2’ configurations.

Lakeland Community College Uses Lighting Solution from Acuity Brands to Meet Key Performance and Energy-Efficiency GoalsAugust 15, 2012
Lakeland Community College (“Lakeland”) in Kirtland, Ohio, selected an integrated lighting solution from Acuity Brands, Inc. to meet key performance and energy-efficiency objectives for its new Holden University Center (“Center”). The integrated lighting solution installed in the 40,000 square-foot facility consisted of 483 Lithonia Lighting® RT Series LED luminaires equipped with nLight® controls. Lakeland has achieved energy and maintenance savings, while also providing an advanced learning environment. The Center’s smart classrooms now include adjustable illumination levels for use of projectors, video monitors and smart screens.
“After considering all of Lakeland’s performance, efficiency and control requirements, LED lighting became the obvious choice,” said Tony Bledsoe, senior project designer, Tec Inc. Engineering & Design, who facilitated the lighting project. “We reviewed competitive products for this application and the Lithonia Lighting RT Series LED luminaires integrated with nLight® controls from Acuity Brands separated itself as the best solution.”
By installing more energy-efficient lighting and controls, the Holden University Center has lowered its lighting energy consumption to 0.689 watts per square foot, greatly surpassing the lighting/energy code requirement of 1.2 watts per average square foot in the building. This reduced energy consumption level contributed in the facility applying for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
Lakeland has been recognized for its energy conservation among higher education facilities in North America, winning a 2010 Bellwether Award, which recognizes outstanding and innovative programs and practices that are successfully leading community colleges into the future. Acuity Brands Introduces SHIVER™ LED Fixture from Lithonia Lighting, Designed for Refrigeration and Display CasesAugust 3, 2012
SHIVER™ LED fixtures enhance merchandise appearance; exclusive AccuDrive® technology saves on installation and maintenance.
Acuity Brands® introduces the SHIVER™ LED luminaire from Lithonia Lighting®, a refrigeration and display case lighting system that delivers even light distribution, energy and maintenance savings, and reduced glare. Equipped with AccuDrive® technology from Acuity Brands, SHIVER LED fixtures use the industry’s only single-driver system to operate all fixtures in a 2- to 6-door case. The use of a single driver helps reduce installation and maintenance costs with fewer components to mount or wire.
Ideal for use in vertical reach-in freezers, vending machines, trophy cases and retail display cases, the SHIVER LED luminaire can be used in environments ranging from -22°F (-30°C) to 86°F (30°C). Merchandise displays are enhanced with a high color rendering index (CRI) of 85. Additionally, glare on merchandise is reduced due to a 90-degree cut-off angle, keeping light inside the case to highlight displayed products rather than shining into the aisles.
SHIVER LED luminaires are engineered to achieve an expected lifetime rating of L70 at 50,000 hours and deliver up to 80 percent energy savings over traditional fluorescent lighting. Additional energy savings can be achieved when SHIVER LED fixtures are paired with occupancy sensor kits from the Acuity Brands portfolio. Sensor Switch® occupancy sensors employ passive infrared technology with a specialized view pattern to detect motion from customers as they move down the aisle. Sensor options include high/low dimming down to 25%, or on/off for a total solid-state solution.
