Video series showcases the multiple benefits of integrated, intelligent lighting for indoor applications.
Acuity Brands, Inc. has produced a series of five videos exploring the practical integration of intelligent LED luminaires and digital controls for interior applications. The Smart + Simple Lighting Solutions video series provides insight on how lighting with embedded controls can be easily tailored to a specific application, while monitoring and responding to the immediate environment. This integrated approach can translate into a lighting solution that offers better lighting quality, improved energy management, and longer operational life than more conventional lighting systems.
“With the implementation of energy standards such as ASHRAE 90.1 2010, it has become essential for specifiers and end users to understand solutions for lighting that meet new mandates and effectively manage energy consumption,” said Neil Egan, Director, Communications, Acuity Brands Lighting. “These videos offer instruction on how ‘smart and simple’ solutions can help maximize lighting performance, while driving out waste and inefficiency.”
The video series is available on the Acuity Brands YouTube channel and covers the following topics:
- Why Smart + Simple: Overview ofintegratedLEDlighting and controls solutions that help users manage energy usage by optimizing lighting utilization and performance over time.

12,000 square-foot building expansion allows customers to explore the performance and energy-saving benefits of integrated daylighting
Acuity Brands, Inc. announces the opening of its renovated Sunoptics® facility and new Daylighting University training center located in Sacramento, CA. The new offices and training facility provide an opportunity for industry professionals to explore the benefits of daylighting. The facility features a 1,600 square foot daylighting training center where Sunoptics will host its Daylighting University, which offers monthly training seminars and opportunities for customer presentations.
“In February 2011, Acuity Brands, Inc. acquired Sunoptics with the vision of providing customers with a complete lighting solution – electric lighting, natural lighting and lighting controls,” said Grant Grable, Acuity Brands Lighting Vice President, and Value Stream Leader for Sunoptics. “Expanding this facility not only supports the growth of Sunoptics® products, but also provides a state-of-the-art, fully integrated daylighting training center to better educate architects, specifiers, lighting designers and building owners on integrated daylighting design.”
Training seminar attendees explore multiple daylighting, electric lighting and controls solutions from Acuity Brands that focus on performance and energy savings. Coursework showcases daylighting solutions for suspended-ceiling applications, including applications in classrooms, offices and manufacturing spaces.

Acuity Brands again brings new products and industry experts to the LIGHTFAIR® International annual lighting trade show and conference in Philadelphia, PA, May 17-19. The Acuity Brands 2011 theme: “Expanding the Boundaries of Lighting.”

This allows training modules to be viewed anywhere, any time, on a variety of different devices, including smart phones. And, while the videos are designed with distributors in mind, they are suitable for anyone to view.
The first videos featured on the YouTube channel focus on new LED lighting products. This LED lighting training is composed of general LED lighting information, followed by training modules about the most popular Acuity Brands LED products.
