Acuity Brands Extends Leadership Position with High Lumen LED Downlighting Series from Gotham Architectural Downlighting

November 26, 2012

New Incito series of solid-state luminaires handle a wide range of lighting scenarios with up to 2,000 possible performance combinations.

Acuity Brands continues to demonstrate its innovation leadership with the introduction of the Incito™ LED open downlight series from Gotham Architectural Lighting. Incito is a new series of solid-state luminaires that combine the performance characteristics of multiple light sources and handle a wide array of lighting scenarios.

Incito downlights feature top performance characteristics – lamp life, dimming capability, color, efficacy, and lumen packages – from multiple light sources in a single system, allowing designers to configure luminaires for a variety of ceiling heights from 12- to100-feet. The series also combines long-life LED technology, seamless dimming capabilities and numerous lumen packages, ranging from 2000 to 6500 lumens.

“The design team at Gotham has created a revolutionary LED platform combining the best attributes of quartz, halide and metal light sources for up to 2,000 possible performance combinations,” said Douglas Grove, Gotham Value Stream Leader. “The result is a dramatically increased variety of spaces – from retail stores and restaurants to hotel lobbies and auditorium theaters – that can be illuminated with greater precision and more freedom.”

Incito downlights deliver the energy efficiency and long life of solid-state technology, which results in both energy and maintenance savings over downlights using traditional light sources. It also provides system-wide control because every device in every zone or network is digitally addressable using nLight® technology from Acuity Brands. Incito downlights also offer ultra-smooth dimming capabilities from 100 percent to less than 1 percent standard.

Abundant lumen packages allow Incito downlights to work in many different spaces from atriums to lower corridors. Its diffused lighting, aesthetic appearance and color consistency complement the popular EVO® line of LED downlighting luminaires from Gotham. DPR Construction Designs Environmentally Responsible Workspace Using Acuity Brands Lighting and Controls Solutions

October 2, 2012

DPR Construction installs highly controllable smart and simple lighting solutions to help meet requirements for LEED Gold certification.

DDPR Construction Chooses Acuity Brands Lighting and Controls SolutionsPR Construction, one of the largest general contracting and construction firms in the U.S, renovated 100 percent of its new occupied office space in Newport Beach, Calf. with LED lighting and digital lighting controls solutions from Acuity Brands, Inc. (NYSE: AYI). DPR Construction’s goals for the renovation were to reduce energy consumption, visually enhance its open and collaborative workspace and meet the criteria to become LEED® Gold certified.

DPR Construction specified multiple lighting and controls products from Acuity Brands®. These products included Lithonia Lighting® VT Series LED luminaires with integrated nLight® technology from Acuity Brands, which use nLight® enabled lighting controls from Sensor Switch®. These fixtures with integrated controls were installed above workstations in its open office spaces. Mark Architectural Lighting™ Slot fixtures were installed in its “innovation” room, to bring architectural appeal to a unique, non-traditional space. Additionally, EVO® A Series LED downlights from Gotham® were installed throughout hallways, bathrooms, labs and showers. Occupancy sensors from Sensor Switch were also installed in all areas to help meet California Title 24 building energy efficiency standards.

As a way to further enhance the energy savings provided by the LED luminaires, DPR Construction specified the nLight Virtual WallPod™ application from Sensor Switch, which allows employees to use their iPhone® or iPad® mobile device or desktop computer to individually control their personal workspace lighting. “Our employees have different needs – one may be looking at drawings, while the other is working on a computer – so we wanted to make workstations functional and flexible for whatever task they may be completing,” said Jason King of DPR Construction. “Through the nLight Virtual WallPod application, every end user has dimming capabilities at his or her desk through an iPhone or the task bar of a computer.”

“As one of the country’s leading general contractors, with a focus on sustainable projects, DPR Construction needed a workspace that shows that they practice what they preach,” said Dave Ranieri, Acuity Brands Lighting Vice President and General Manager, Indoor Lighting. “The integration of high performance LED lighting with a robust digital controls platform gives DPR Construction a smart and simple way to reach their energy saving goals, while putting their core values of doing what is right for employees, customers and the industry into practice as a company.”

Acuity Brands Illuminates New LEED Certified Atlanta Airport International Terminal

July 10, 2012

Acuity Brands Indoor and Outdoor Luminaires and Controls Installed Throughout $1.4 Billion Construction Project

More than 14,000 indoor and outdoor lighting luminaires from Acuity Brands, Inc.  are now illuminating the new Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The new terminal, which is certified Silver under the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard, incorporates 12 new gates, eight security checkpoints, separate arrival and departure levels and new access roadways. The $1.4 billion project includes a comprehensive array of Acuity Brands lighting and digital controls solutions designed to enhance the terminal user’s experience by delivering quality, energy-efficient lighting.

Multiple lighting products from the expansive Acuity Brands portfolio are installed in nearly every application throughout the 1.2 million square-foot facility. A blend of custom and standard lighting solutions are employed to highlight the building’s signature architecture and deliver required light levels throughout the terminal space, while addressing multiple energy-usage challenges.

“The main challenge revolved around the requirements of designing the first LEED Silver® certified building at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and executing this with lighting strategies and technology that were energy efficient, cost effective and easy to maintain,” said Domingo Gonzalez, president of Domingo Gonzalez Associates and head lighting designer on the project. “We looked for lighting solutions that would comprehensively address this massively complex family of spaces, and do so with a degree of consistency and commonality of light sources.”

Mark Architectural Lighting™ custom T5 and T8 Slot 6 fixtures and custom cove lights were modified specifically to accommodate the architectural needs of the space. Luminaires from Gotham®  accent the column architecture.

Mounted on round-tapered poles, Omero™ area and roadway luminaires from Lithonia Lighting® light the terminal roadways. In the arrival area, Lithonia Lighting fluorescent high bays, modified for T6 lamping, are mounted to the canopy and illuminate incoming gate pathways. The baggage claim and conveyer belts located throughout the space are entirely lit with Lithonia Lighting I-BEAM® fluorescent high bays.

In addition, Acuity Brands provided the Synergy® and Lighting Control & Design™ lighting control systems used throughout the new terminal. The systems reduce light levels in times of low gate occupancy in order to save additional energy.

“Mark Architectural Lighting slot fixtures were the key to the whole project because Acuity Brands was able to customize the Slot 6 fixtures to fit our needs,” said Gonzalez. “With that came the responsibility of helping us with all the configurations and modifications needed for meeting program objectives and LEED certification compliance. Acuity Brands’ engineering support throughout the process was nothing short of outstanding. Acuity Brands engineers were excellent collaborators in developing all of the lighting control system configurations, which were all so critical in meeting all of the energy aspects of LEED.”

“We are honored to provide industry-leading, complete lighting and controls solutions for the new international terminal at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in our home state of Georgia,” said Geoff Marlow, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Acuity Brands Lighting. “Our extensive portfolio of luminaires and controls, combined with tailored labor saving logistics support, made it possible for us to meet the requirements of such a large project. Working closely with the lighting designer, and integrating delivery and labor saving programs to the contractor, proved to be an invaluable experience in achieving the best quality lighting and service to satisfy the project’s focused and demanding requirements.”
