Acuity Brands Expands Portfolio of LED Renovation Solutions with the Introduction of VTLED Relight Assembly Kits from Lithonia LightingSeptember 11, 2012
Long-lasting LED technology results in reduced maintenance and disposal costs.
The Lithonia Lighting® VTLED Relight assembly kits from Acuity Brands, Inc. feature long-lasting LEDs with a service life of up 50,000 hours, reducing maintenance requirements and disposal costs compared to conventional lighting. The VTLED kits’ advanced LED light engine and driver consume less energy than older, less energy-efficient lamps.
VTLED Relight kits can be assembled completely below the ceiling plane. Universal end brackets and a one-piece plug-in light engine, coupled with a below-ceiling assembly capability, make the VTLED kits simple and quick to install. Kits are available in both 2’ x 4’ and 2’ x 2’ configurations.
“The VTLED Relight assembly kits are a high-quality, affordable, attractive and easy-to-install solution for lighting renovations,” said Dave Ranieri, Acuity Brands Lighting Vice President and General Manager, Indoor Lighting. “The enhanced lighting experience from the VTLED Relight kits gives the appearance of a complete lighting redesign while using far less material and labor costs as compared with installing new fixtures.”
The VTLED Relight kits create balanced and uniform illumination by eliminating shadows and cave effects for an enhanced aesthetic appeal. The kit’s reflectors soften and distribute light into the space while minimizing luminous contrast between the fixture and ceiling. Sloped end plates provide a smooth transition between fixture and ceiling. Advanced optical film provides superior LED concealment and even illumination across the diffuser.

Illuminating Engineering Society Selects 10 Acuity Brands Lighting Products for Annual Progress ReportFebruary 24, 2012
Acuity Brands announced today a total of 10 lighting products, including new LED lamps, luminaires and lighting control software, have been selected by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) to be included in its annual Progress Report. The Progress Report documents significant worldwide developments and achievements in the lighting industry, including new products, applications and design tools.
The innovative and significant new Acuity Brands products selected by IES include: Acculamp S-Series LED lamp, Lithonia Lighting RTLED indoor ambient LED series luminaire, Gotham Downlighting DLWLED lensed wall wash luminaire, Lithonia Lighting Archway Passage LED luminaire, Hydrel 8100/8200 Series LED floodlight luminaire, Healthcare Lighting Surg5 surgical T8 troffer luminaire, Winona Lighting Winline Submersible 607 LED luminaire, Winona Lighting Revel OLED surface mounted general illumination luminaire, Winona Lighting Kindred OLED linear general illumination luminaire, and SensorSwitch nLight lighting control system.
“Acceptance in the IES Progress Report is acknowledgement from representatives from leading lighting industry manufacturers and design firms that many of our new products and lighting solutions continue to achieve an advanced level of uniqueness and innovation,” said Rick Earlywine, Acuity Brands Lighting Senior Vice President, Innovation & Technology. “We are proud to be recognized as a leader making significant advancements in lighting.”
In high-performance areas of hospitals, the amount of energy used by lighting systems is, generally speaking and for obvious reasons, exempt from scrutiny. But that doesn’t mean energy consumption can’t, in fact, be reduced without sacrificing lighting quality or the ease of maintaining the lighting.
Introduced by Acuity Brands, the Surg5 surgical troffer luminaire from Healthcare Lighting accomplishes that balancing act. The newest addition to the Healthcare Lighting OR/Surgical Suite product line, the Surg5 luminaire, a surgical-suite supplemental fixture, is designed to deliver the equivalent light output of a 6-lamp fluorescent troffer while requiring only 5 lamps. It also provides in-place accessibility of the ballast for faster and more cost-effective maintenance.
A three-year contract has been awarded to Acuity Brands to supply luminaires and lighting solutions to Premier Purchasing Partners, L.P., the group-purchasing unit of the Premier healthcare alliance. Premier is a collaborative alliance of healthcare facilities with an aim of improving community health through high-quality and cost-effective services.
The broad Acuity Brands portfolio of energy-efficient luminaires, intelligent control systems, and daylighting solutions, which now includes the specialized lighting portfolio of recently acquired Healthcare Lighting, will help Premier meet sustainability objectives for its members in new construction, renovation and relighting applications. That, plus the highest quality illumination for the wide variety of tasks in the facilities owned, leased or managed by its members.
Acuity Brands has acquired Healthcare Lighting, Inc., of Fairview, PA, a leading provider of specialized, high-performance lighting products for healthcare facilities. Its focus is on providing an optimal lighting experience for all those involved in healthcare: nurses, patients, doctors, guests, and healthcare facility support staff.
Some estimate that the size of the North American market for lighting and lighting controls for new healthcare facilities exceeds $1 billion annually; the renovation opportunity for existing healthcare facilities is as much as $20 billion. Applications include patient and examination rooms, surgical suites and medical procedure rooms, and lighting products for specialized medical functions.
