Multiple Acuity Brands Products Recognized for Innovative Indoor LED Luminaire Design

Acuity Brands receives a prestigious “Best in Class” and six “Recognized” awards for excellence from the 2013 Next Generation Luminaires Solid State Lighting Design Competition.

Acuity Brands has been honored with seven  lighting industry awards including a “Best in Class” from the Next Generation Luminaires™ (NGL) Solid State Lighting (SSL) Design Competition. Distinctions were awarded to Peerless® and Lithonia Lighting® luminaires during the 2013 LEDucation 7 Conference held on March 20th. The judges, comprised of industry peers, evaluated and selected the lighting industry’s most innovative indoor lighting products.

The Lithonia Lighting W Series LED Wall Bracket was chosen “Best in Class” for excellence in quality, energy efficiency, dimmability, and aesthetic appearance and style among other attributes. W Series LED luminaires feature integrated controls that maximize energy savings in low-traffic or low-occupancy areas such as corridors, stairwells and restrooms. The luminaires automatically turn on or off as occupants move in and out of the areas.

According to the NGL, the idea behind its organization is to make it easier for lighting designers and specifiers to find LED lighting products that are worthy of specification. The goal is to recognize products that are not only attractive, but that are also energy-efficient and deliver good lighting quality.

NGL judges also distinguished Acuity Brands with six “Recognized” awards granted for the following innovative LED luminaires:  Round LED luminaire by Peerless®; Peerless® Mino LED luminaire;  Origami™ LED luminaire by Peerless®;  I-BEAM® LED high bay luminaire by Lithonia Lighting®;  IBH LED industrial low bay luminaire by Lithonia Lighting®; and  Proteon™ SL linear pendant luminaire by Lithonia Lighting®.

The D-Series LED Floodlight, Sizes 1 and 3 from Lithonia Lighting® received a Recognized award for excellence at the outdoor NGL SSL Design Competition announced last month.

The NGL SSL Design Competition is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). The contest seeks to promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for commercial, industrial, and institutional lighting applications.

2013 Solid-State Lighting Awards Solidify Acuity Brands’ Position as Technology Leader

Acuity Brands receives prestigious 2013 Technology Brand Leader designation and wins six LED lighting product honors from Architectural SSL Product Innovation Awards.  

Acuity Brands has been distinguished as the Technology Brand Leader in the LED luminaire market by the third annual Architectural SSL magazine Production Innovation Awards (PIA). In addition, Acuity Brands received Product Innovation Awards for six of its indoor and outdoor LED lighting products introduced this past year, further emphasizing the Company’s market leadership in product innovation.

Acuity Brands Delivers Cost-Effective Options for General-Purpose Ambient LED Lighting

New LED troffer and wraparounds from Lithonia Lighting provide exceptional value and performance for any budget.

Lithonia Lighting introduces the affordable Contractor Select LED troffer and wraparound luminaires from Acuity Brands. Ideal for replacing T8 fluorescent fixtures, both the GTL LED troffer and LBL LED surface-mount wraparound luminaires deliver general ambient light for recessed ceiling applications such as schools, offices and hospitals. LED technology coupled with MVOLT (120 – 277V) drivers ensure color consistency and an expected service life of at least 50,000 hours.

The GTL LED recessed troffer features a frosted pattern #12 lens to diffuse the light source without compromising lumen output. It is available in 2’ x 2’ and 2’ x 4’ configurations. Smooth-hemmed sides and a lightweight fixture enable easy installation. The GTL LED luminaire is ideal for grid ceilings when replacing traditional 2-lamp T8 fluorescent fixtures.

Lithonia Lighting Launches Z Series LED Striplight

Acuity Brands, Inc. has expanded its LED indoor ambient lighting portfolio with the launch of the Z Series LED striplight by Lithonia Lighting®. The Z Series luminaires are compact, low-profile solid-state strips that deliver long maintenance-free performance in a wide range of retrofit and new construction applications, including uplight and downlight in commercial, retail, manufacturing, warehouse, cove and display. The Z Series luminaires join the ever-growing portfolio of versatile Lithonia Lighting LED indoor ambient lighting products.

The Z Series luminaires are available in both T5 and T8 lengths, and may be surface-mounted or suspended with chain, aircraft cable or stem. The Z Series luminaires are available in white, galvanized, matte black and smoke gray finishes.

Each LED component is electrically and optically measured during fabrication to ensure that not even the slightest color variance is detectable by the human eye. This LED technology provides color uniformity that exceeds ANSI standards. Z Series LED striplights distribute light down and outward, eliminating shadows between fixtures and scalloped patterns on walls.
Z Series LED striplight components are selected for high performance, and fixtures are certified for use in dry and damp locations ranging from -4°F (-20°C) to 86°F (30°C). Fixtures come standard with 0-10V dimming to 10 percent. Optional controls offer additional energy savings and can extend the life of the Z Series LED striplight.

Dennis Paul, senior project manager with engineering consultant DC Engineering, said it chose the new Z Series to be installed in the new Meridian Senior Center in Meridian, Idaho, to meet specific challenges.

“The new Meridian Senior Center was a difficult project to illuminate due to the wide range of intended usage, and a stringent 1 watt per square foot energy code allowance for this type of facility,” explained Paul. “We needed a fixture with a high lumen output for day-to-day activities, while being able to reduce the lumens for events and functions requiring lower light levels. We also needed a low-maintenance fixture that did not require lamp and ballast replacement within the next 10 years. The Z Series luminaire achieved these goals, while saving the project roughly 21 fixtures compared to fluorescent striplights.”
