Mark Hand Presenting at Better Buildings by Design Conference

February 9, 2012

Mark Hand, Director of Indoor New Product Development & Technology, is presenting today at Better Buildings by Design in South Burlington, VT.  Hand’s presentation titled “Reducing LED Costs, Downstream” will focus on how to educate end users on LED lighting to achieve cost efficiencies.

“End-users often expect the world from LED Luminaires; after all: they’re an investment,” said Hand. “But in many cases these high expectations are actually driving up the cost of LED lighting.”

Hand’s presentation will address how to educate end users about what they truly need, how to create appropriate LED specifications, and help put the technology they seek within reach.

Dave Ranieri Presenting at 2012 Strategies in Light

February 8, 2012

Dave Ranieri, VP and GM of Lithonia Lighting Commercial Indoor Business Unit, is presenting today at Strategies in Light 2012 in Santa Clara, CA.  Ranieri’s presentation titled “Bigger LED Lighting Story is Beginning to Unfold” will focus on maximizing the true potential of LED lighting when married with digital controls.

“The benefit of LED lighting is so much more than higher lumens per watt and 10-year+ life expectancies,” said Ranieri.  “The true potential of LED lighting is just starting to unfold as we merge digital lighting controls with LEDs to create truly intelligent lighting. With this advancement in lighting technology, it is imperative we consider and address lighting differently.”

Ranieri’s presentation will address the needs and opportunities of intelligent digital lighting, and how digital lighting will impact the near and distant future of lighting, lighting design, energy use, sustainability and building operation.

Architectural appearance combined with sustainability and a high level of performance characterize new GranVille® II LED luminaires from Holophane. The fixtures offer the same timeless housing choices that made Holophane’s GranVille HID line popular and are offered with Classic or Premier prismatic borosilicate glass optics to facilitate use of new or installed pieces.

Holophane GranVille II LED luminaires feature a new optical design that provides HID light levels while creating a comfortable wholly luminous appearance with low glare, less uplight and less light trespass. Multiple lumen packages are available and fixtures may be ordered with asymmetric or symmetric distributions. The luminaires are optimized to meet existing light standards.

“GranVille II LED luminaires represent the latest generation in the GranVille family, which has become the benchmark for decorative acorn-style lanterns,” said Ben Prichard, Holophane Senior Product Manager, Outdoor. “The period style fixtures are highly efficient and provide significantly greater lumens per watt. Depending on the application, they also use less energy than traditional lamp technologies.”

Like most LED sources, GranVille II LED luminaires offer long life with reduced maintenance. A dedicated thermal management system maximizes performance and reliability. The fixtures are also designed for easy access to the electronic driver to simplify maintenance.

GranVille II LED luminaires include cast aluminum housing available in multiple styles, including two utility series and four standard housings. The fixtures are offered with traditional GranVille trim options and mount to industry standard pole tenons and existing locations.

“New GranVille II LED luminaires provide present customers the cost effective option of retaining their pole, housing, glass globe, accessories and trim and simply replacing the light source and internal electronic components,” Prichard said. “The luminaires are suited to a range of environments, from parks and city streets to campuses, walkways and parking lots.”

GranVille II LED luminaires are OEM certified for retrofit of existing models. The new product family is pending regulatory listing and will be suitable for up to 40ºC ambient temperature, depending on the selected wattage and options.

Sensor Switch nLight Network Lighting Control System Awarded 2011 Top Product Recognition

February 6, 2012

nLiGHT® Network Lighting Control System from Sensor Switch® recently received a 2011 Top Products Award for lighting controls from Building Operating Management, the most preferred publication among building owners and facilities executives.

The Top Products Awards from Building Operation Management recognize the best products from manufacturers and suppliers from the past year as determined by building and facility executives who participated in a national survey.  Top Products were selected based on the criteria of innovation and usefulness to facility managers.  Winners were selected from a field of more than 500 possible products.

“It is a real honor to be selected for this award,” said Ben Hahn, Acuity Brands Lighting Vice President and Value Stream Leader for Sensor Switch.  “What makes this award even more credible is that professionals in the industry voted on the winning products.  It’s very gratifying to know building operators, facility managers and design engineers chose nLiGHT as the top product in the lighting controls category. We are thrilled that nLiGHT is a valued solution for their lighting control needs.”

First introduced in 2007, the nLiGHT system is a revolutionary digital architecture and networking technology that cost-effectively integrates time-based, daylight-based, sensor-based and manual lighting controls. Designed to function in an individual room or to be networked together across an entire facility or campus, the nLiGHT system is an easy-to-use and easy-to-install lighting control system.  It significantly cuts energy consumption while enhancing user and occupant convenience.  nLiGHT intelligence is also embedded in LED luminaires from Lithonia Lighting® — offering a complete and customizable lighting solution with integrated controls.

Lithonia Lighting Launches D-Series Size 1 LED Area Luminaire

February 3, 2012

Acuity Brands has expanded its LED outdoor lighting portfolio with the launch of the D-Series Size 1 LED Area Luminaire by Lithonia Lighting®.  The D-Series Size 1 luminaire offers a stylish, modern look ideal for many commercial and municipal applications, including parking lots, plazas, campuses and streetscapes. Its design makes a bold, progressive statement – in both aesthetics and technology – while still blending seamlessly with any outdoor environment.

When installed as a replacement for 100-400W metal halide luminaires, the D-Series Size 1 luminaire delivers an average of 65 percent energy savings and an expected service life of up to 100,000 hours or more.  The nighttime operation of approximately 20 years is equal to six or more expected metal halide re-lampings. If replacing metal halide one for one, each D-Series Size 1 luminaire is estimated to save owners thousands of dollars in energy and maintenance costs over its lifetime.

The luminaire’s proprietary optics deliver better uniformity and lower power density (watts per square foot) than metal halide, allowing site owners to save on energy while still meeting IESNA standards. The optical design also minimizes the number of costly poles needed for new construction applications.

“The D-Series Size 1 luminaire is a high-performer at a great value, making it the obvious choice for new construction and renovation projects, even when compared to traditional products” said Emily Finn, Acuity Brands Lighting Value Stream Manager for outdoor lighting products. “We are truly excited to demonstrate its capabilities to the commercial and municipal markets.”

The sleek modular design of the D-Series Size 1 luminaire also allows for easy maintenance and future light engine upgrades.  It is available with a wide range of options including dimming capabilities, install-friendly features and the Company’s ROAM® wireless monitoring and control compatibility. It is finished with a zinc-infused powder coat paint that provides resistance to corrosion and weathering. The D-Series Size 1 luminaire also has zero uplight and qualifies as an Acuity Brands Nighttime Friendly™ product, making it consistent with the LEED® and Green Globes® criteria for eliminating wasteful uplight.

This luminaire is available nationally through Lithonia Lighting sales representatives and authorized distributors.
